Het Poolse duo Marcin Cichy en Igor Pudlo (aka Skapel) breakt, cut, funkt, beat en timmert alweer een tijdje succesvol aan de weg. Het jaar 2000 staat in hun dagboeken als beste jaar tot nu toe; ze maakten in dat jaar, samen toerend met dj Vadim met hun 4 decks mix- en scratchshow naam en sindsdien hebben ze niet meer omgekeken. Ze tekenden bij het befaamde Ninja Tune, brachten het zeer goed ontvangen ‘Polish Jazz’ uit en sinds enkele jaren hebben ze zich gespecialiseerd in het afstoffen en op de Skalpel-wijze remixen van oude en obscure Poolse jazzplaten. En aan de resultaten te horen gaat ze dat goed af. Ik ben geen heel grote jazzliefhebber maar ik plaats ze zelf tussen de albums van Bugge Wesseltoft, Nils Petter Molvaer, The Herbaliser en Herbert.
En vanavond zocht ik naar het ‘Skalpel / 1958 Breaks’ album en ik vond niet alleen die maar drie extra albums (inclusief ‘Polish Jazz’) in een fijne open directory. Uiteraard beschikbaar zolang de deur openstaat…
